By appointment only *Not covered by the RAMQ (See methods of payment) Click here for preparation Magnetic resonance is an exam without radiation which uses a powerful magnetic field, waves of radio frequency, receptive antennas and a highly perfected computerized system. Our top of the line 1.5 Tesla MRI equipment allows the detection of lesions which would not be visible with any other technology, such as radiography, ultrasound or scanner (CT), because the magnetic resonance can differentiate between the tissue, which is unique in this type of imaging. For example, in the resonance of the knee, identification of the ligaments, meniscus and peri-articular tissues in addition to the bone itself can be obtained.Furthermore, our MRI machine has a 70 cm opening instead of 60 cm, and a small tunnel of 125 cm instead of 160 cm which accommodates claustrophobic patients and obese patients. Magnetic resonance has a very important role in the imaging of the nervous system, the musculo-skeletal system and the circulatory system, allowing a precise and detailed evaluation of the brain, the spine, the bone marrow, the articulations, the blood vessels (stenosis, aneurysm) and the breasts. It can also be useful in the characterization of certain abdomino-pelvic lesions. On occasion, an injection of the substance (Gadolinium) can be necessary to increase the sensitivity of detection of certain lesions and their characterization. Magnetic resonance is a very safe exam with no side effects. There are however some absolute contraindications, such as pacemaker, etc. It is important to mention any previous surgery or surgical material such as implants or aneurysm clips.
