Preparation : Exams requiring a preparation
Esophagus only and/or deglutition study.
Barium meal double contrast and esophagus. Small intestine (length of the exam varies according to patients.
Fasting : do not eat, drink or smoke after 22h the night before the exam.

Barium enema double contrast

You have to purchase at the drugstore:

- 1 bottle of  Citro-Mag

- 3 tablets of Dulcolax 5 mg

- 1 Suppository of Dulcolax 10mg

 Be sure to follow each step and complete all instructions listed below

Recommanded fluids: Mainly WATER or black coffee, plain tea, soft drinks or STRAINED fruit juices. NO MILK PRODUCTS

 On the day before the examination

  

  12 h      Liquid lunch: clear soup (consommé), plain gelatine (from fruit flavoured jelly powder), 225 ml (8 oz) of fluid. NO MILK PRODUCTS 

 

12 h 30 (or ½ hour after lunch)

Drink entire bottle of Citro-Mag over ice.  A strong bowel cleansing action should be expected 3 to 6 hours after drinking this preparation  

 

13 h      225 ml (8 oz) of recommanded fluids

 

 

15 h      Take all 3 Dulcolax tablets with a large glass of water. Do not crush or chew tablets. Swallow tablets whole, one at a time

16 h      225 ml (8 oz) of recommanded fluids

17 h      Liquid dinner:  clear soup (consommé), plain gelatine (from fruit flavoured jelly powder), 225 ml (8 oz) of fluid. NO MILK PRODUCTS

18 h      225 ml (8 oz) of recommanded fluids

21 h      225 ml (8 oz) of recommanded fluids

22 h Remove foil wrapping from DULCOLAX suppository. Insert suppository in the rectumas far as possible. Wait at least 10-15 minutes before evacuating even if the urge is strong.

 

Bedtime: 225 ml (8 oz) of recommanded fluids. Drink additional quantities of the recommanded fluidsif up during the night   

 

On the day of your examination if you have a MORNING appointement 

 

No food until after the examination is completed. One glass of fluids is allowed prior to the examination. NO MILK PRODUCTS

 

On the day of your examination if you have an AFTERNOON appointment

 

A light snack is allowed until 8AM on the day of your appointment. No fatty or dairy products. Black tea or coffee, jam or dry toasted bread allowed

ARTHROGRAPHIES, INFILTRATIONS :
Cost of injection :
20 $ for local anesthesia
20 $ for Cortisone and  intra-articular anesthetic
40 $ for facet blocks 1 level
60 $ for facet blocks 2 levels
80 $ for facet blocks 3 levels
Maximum 4 sites per visit

Iodine allergy: for some infiltrations, iodine can be replaced with air.  

Physiotherapy: Plan your appointment for physiotherapy within 24 hours following an infiltration in the shoulder (distensive arthrography), to improve the spread of the medication and thus ease the pain of physiotherapy exercises while still under the influence of the anesthetic.
*Bring all images of previous relevant exams dated 3 months and less.
